The Best Programs

Evaluate your strengths

Our vocational evaluation program guides you in clarifying career goals and selecting training and education programs to reach them. To help job seekers or the newly hired make a successful transition to work, we counsel in areas such as interviewing, mastering new job tasks and work site orientation.

Sharpen your skills

Our training programs teach you practical work skills required in functional occupational areas, such as general office support, customer service, laboratory assistants, business software applications and support, product assembly, retailing, food preparation, mail distribution and document management. We also offer High School Equivalency preparation and assistance in preparing for civil service and other pre-employment tests. Abilities, Inc. provided specialized in-vehicle driver education programs.

Through our wide network of employers, our placement specialists assist you in exploring job opportunities in many industries. We help you establish viable and realistic employment goals, develop a resume that will get you the job, conduct a job search, complete job applications and improve your interviewing skills. There is a Job Resource Room equipped with the latest computer equipment and software. Internet access, phones, fax, duplication and postage machines, TTY for persons who are deaf, and staffed by experienced placement professionals to assist you with your cover letters, references, and job search. Placement specialists also assist you in following up with job leads and provide on the job support, if needed.

Abilities, Inc. is a respected resource for qualified employees among hiring companies in Long Island/New York City metropolitan area and across the country. Every year, more than 800 people with disabilities take advantage of our classroom instruction, practical application and on-site work experiences. We consistently place about 75% of our trainees into jobs in industries such as insurance, legal, finance, health services,  pharmaceuticals, information technology, manufacturing, professional services, retail, hospitality and food services.

  • Evaluations for College Students - This battery of tests measures a person's competencies in certain cognitive abilities that relate to school performance and level of mastery in reading, mathematics, written language and general knowledge. Learn More
  • Evaluations for High School Students - The purpose of this evaluation is to assist parents and the Committee on Special Education to plan and deliver transition services. It is a comprehensive vocational evaluation that uses work, real or simulated, as the basis for assessment and vocational counseling. Learn More
  • Job Coaching / Supported Employment - Provides support at the work site to help persons fully learn their jobs, understand their responsibilities and be successful at work. Learn More
  • Placement Services - directs and supports individual job searches by identifying work preferences, matching job skills with labor market needs, improving interview techniques and developing effective resumes. Learn More
  • Social Security Disability Benefits Counseling and Planning - Provides information and guidance to social security disability benefit recipients about recent changes in legislation that offer incentives for individuals with disabilities to begin or return to work. Learn More
