On January 19 – Dolores Garcia, the Recruitment Coordinator for the U.S. Department of Labor, covering the New York and Boston region came to Abilities Inc. and provided a spirited overview to consumers and staff of Abilities, Inc. on the process of applying for federal employment under the schedule A hiring authority.

Abilities, Inc. Honored by Urban League of Long Island
Abilities, Inc. was recently honored at the 2011 Urban League of Long Island’s Annual Equal Opportunity Day Event held at the Oheka Castle in Huntington New York. This event which was attended by almost 200 companies and representatives from the Long Island region provided an opportunity to honor and recognize partners who help Long Island residents achieve economic self reliance, parity and empowerment

ON TUESDAY, THINK ABOUT TONY FITZGERALD
…and everyone else the NYI mean everything to
Tony Fitzgerald…you probably know him even if you don’t know his name. He’s the guy in the wheelchair with the big smile in the handicapped section at center ice for just about every Islanders game at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. He’s had four season tickets there for twenty years, been a fan for a lot longer than that. Tony turns 50 in November, which is amazing because he looks ten years younger. Which is amazing when you think about what he’s been through.

Abilities! Receives NRA Award
Before an enthusiastic audience of over 100 attendees, representatives from Abilities, Inc. (Albertson, NY) and its corporate partners The Gap, Inc. and Mailboxes ETC (MBE) accepted the “Rehabilitation Program of Distinction Award” from the Metropolitan New York Chapter of the National Rehabilitation Association (NRA) during ceremonies last month in Manhattan.

Wrapped Up in Retail Training
There's a new vocational training opportunity in store at Abilities Inc. The Albertson campus that serves individuals with disabilities has opened a retail store that's also a training program.
