Laboratory Assistant Training
Objective:
To prepare for positions in clinical, environmental, pharmaceutical or research laboratories.
Duration:
15 weeks
Possible Job Titles:
Laboratory Assistant, Specimen Processor, Research Assistant, Quality Control Inspector, Courier, Client Service Representative
Description:
- Specimen processing, media and solution preparation and sterilization procedures
- Emphasis on laboratory safety and correct use of protective equipment
- Familiarity with technical and medical terminology
- Hands-on usage of laboratory equipment
- Introduction to keyboarding, Word and Excel
- Interaction with members of the business community through laboratory tours, presentations, technical reviews and practice interviews
- One-week internship in a laboratory setting
Entrance Requirements:
- High School graduate or General Equivalency Diploma
- 8th grade math skills (individuals testing at a lower level may be able to qualify with sufficient time for remediation)
- Demonstrated aptitude based on vocational diagnostic testing
- Ability to attend five days weekly
