About the Conference

For the past thirty six years at Abilities Inc., our Adapted Driver Training Program has been one of our landmark programs. During that time, we have evaluated and trained over 5,000 people with many varied disabilities to drive, gain/regain independence utilizing adapted and traditional vehicles. This program has served as a model for others throughout our country, and has been replicated at other locations nationwide.

Abilities, Inc. will be hosting its first ever Regional Symposium on Driver Training on Thursday, November 3, 2011, to be held on the Abilities campus in Albertson, Long Island. The conference will host physical and occupational therapy professionals, manufacturers of technology and adaptations, makers of prosthetics and orthotics, car dealerships, auto insurance company representatives, driving school personnel, representatives from rehabilitation centers and hospitals dealing with adapted driver training, and adapted driver instructors from specialized rehabilitation programs.

Individuals who benefit from driver training programs can live more independent lives. Vocational, social and recreational opportunities may be available through new mobility options
